This year’s Chantlanta Sacred Music Festival promises to be “much more than a weekend festival,” says Stephanie Kohler, director of the annual event.

Grammy-nominated Krishna Das, one of the most renowned and well-loved chant artists in the West, will headline the weekend. All festival proceeds will benefit Camp Cadi, a summer camp for young girls traumatized by childhood sexual abuse.

The weekend’s festivities will begin Friday, March 8 at 6 p.m. with several local kirtan bands. Admission is free. Saturday activities will feature more kirtan music, a silent auction, a vendor market and other free activities. Ten sacred-sound workshops will be offered that require advance registration, including a $10 donation to the Camp Cadi.

Krishna Das will lead two events at the festival: a kirtan concert on March 9 and his Trust in the Heart workshop on March 10. The weekend’s seven kirtan bands include Blue Spirit Wheel, Narayani, Sunmoon Pie and Phil McWilliams.

Chantlanta “has been the single largest catalyst of one of the most diverse and thriving chant communities in the U.S.,” according to its website. Founded in 2010 by Karen Dorfman, Ian Boccio and Stephanie Kohler, the organization has raised over $40,000 for local and international charities. All events and activities are organized entirely by volunteers, including the musicians and workshop facilitators.

The festival will take place at The Church at Ponce & Highland, 1085 Ponce de Leon Ave. NE, Atlanta.
