Shambala Satellite Opens In Grant Park

The Atlanta Shambhala Meditation Center, which offers daily and weekly meditation classes and sittings, has opened a satellite location in Grant Park.

The new site, at 1030 Grant St. SE, had its soft opening in August with two programs and looks to hold its grand opening in September.

Although the Grant Park location is less than nine miles away from the Center’s main location, 1447 Church St. in Decatur, its representatives see the move as a diversifying one. “Being closer to downtown Atlanta makes us accessible to a different segment of the city,” said Colette Walsh in an email.

The facility’s 860 square feet—which includes a shrine room, a community room and a teacher’s suite—will accommodate 35 people at a time. Ongoing events include Sunday morning and weekday meditations.

Walsh said that future special events held at Grant Park will be driven by the surrounding community. The August programs that launched the satellite location were a one-day meditation retreat and a program on learning how to meditate.
