People come to Dr. Mike Greenberg of Millennium Healthcare for natural pain relief. And as this issue’s lead article, “Healing The Hard Stuff,” suggests, Greenberg bemoans the fact that most people do not know they can turn to chiropractic, acupuncture, naturopathy et al. for help. “They don’t know we exist,” says Greenberg’s colleague, Dr. Nadya Dhanani. “People don’t know what we do.”

Founded in 1996, Millennium Healthcare is a Dunwoody-based holistic healthcare practice. It has three doctors — an allopath, a chiropractor (Greenberg) and a homeopath (Dhanani)—as well as a physician’s assistant and a massage therapist and esthetician.

Even the resident allopath, Dr. Brad Gould, knows about and advocates for natural healing and alternative modalities. A 1999 graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, Gould was a fellow at the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture. And he has fed his interests in integrative medicine, diet and nutrition, herbal remedies and homeopathy.

Gould’s curiosity is matched by Greenberg’s, who claims that only 15 percent of his treatments these days involve spinal adjustments. Speaking of his early years in practice, Greenberg says, “The only com-plaint I would get from people [is that they] didn’t like to be popped...[I thought] if I could learn how to do chiropractic without manipulation, my life would be perfect.”

So after attending the Pasadena College of Chiropractic, Greenberg received acupuncture training in 1985, and then additional trainings in a long list of techniques including Bio-Energetic Synchronization Technique (B.E.S.T.), Eye Movement Desensitization Repro-cessing (EMDR) and Neuro Emotional Technique (NET). He was in the second training cohort for what would become Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Techniques (NAET).

“When you think of chiropractic you think of moving joints, but I always tell people I move energy,” says Greenberg. “That’s why I like to tell people I’m a holistic chiropractic... I’ll do nutrition, adjust emotions and eliminate allergies.

If a chiropractor with a long list of techniques crammed into his bio finds it difficult to get his message out, a graduate of the Homeopathic Medical College of the University of Mumbai must too. Indeed, Dr. Dhanani says that a perception she contends with is that homeopathy is “over-the-counter.” There are about 200 medicines that homeopaths use to treat allergies, she continues. “Homeopathy is not over-the-counter.”

While homeopathy is a registered medical practice in other parts of the world, says Dhanani, in the United States homeo-paths are simply certified. There is only one organization that offers certification and there are only five certified homeopaths in Atlanta. Dhanani is one of them.

Like Greenberg, Dhanani can address a wide range of issues and conditions, but she has particularly strong experience with dermatological, upper respiratory and high blood pressure issues. While the three doctors do not review cases together, they do refer patients to one another when the need arises. For example, a patient who came to Dhanani for a skin issue was treated and then referred to Greenberg to test for allergies.

Millennium Healthcare’s Med Spa is directed by Cindy Stockton, a massage therapist and medical esthetician. Like the others, her offerings are more natural and holistic. For example, while Stockton will do chemical facial peels, she advocates microneedling, a process that results in skin that breathes and accepts nutrition better. And while clients can receive a relaxing, nonmedical massage, Stockton also receives referrals of plastic surgery patients for lymphatic drainage massage.

The referral source? Dr. Susan Kolb, founder and owner of Millennium Health-care. While Kolb owns the practice, she is not one of its practitioners. Rather, the building that houses Millennium also houses her plastic surgery practice, Plastikos.

How did a plastic surgeon come to found a holistic medical practice? As it turns out, Millennium Healthcare was founded for women who became ill due to defective breast implants. “Silicone is a known adjuvant, so especially in patients with certain genetic types, any silicone exposure predisposes them to autoimmune disease,” writes Kolb in an email.
