Natural Awakenings Atlanta

Atlanta Shining Brighter in Solar Jobs

In 2017, the Atlanta metropolitan area experienced a 21 percent boost in the emerging solar industry, and in 2018, it is heading in the same direction, reflecting some of the highest solar growth in the country. According to a report by The Solar Foundation, Atlanta now provides almost 3,000 solar-related jobs in manufacturing, sales and distribution and project development, among others.

Georgia posted a 10 percent job increase in the clean energy sector in 2017.

In May 2017, Atlanta passed a resolution to transition to 100 percent clean, renewable energy by 2035. Across the country, 63 cities—including Aspen, Colorado; Burlington, Vermont; Greensburg, Kansas; Kodiak Island, Alaska; and Rockport, Missouri— have reached their targets to generate 100 percent of their energy from clean, nonpolluting and renewable sources.

The Sierra Club of Georgia’s Ready For 100 campaign works to inspire local leaders to support a healthier metro Atlanta powered exclusively by clean energy. For more information, see SierraClub.org/Georgia/cefa/Readyfor100.
