Earth Day Blooms at Atlanta Botanical Gardens

Earth Day is in full bloom at Atlanta Botanical Garden with activities for children and adults throughout April.

Atlanta Blooms, a botanical garden annual tradition, started March 1 and continues through April 30 with 80,000 spring flowers on display. Crocuses, daffodils, hyacinths and tulips are calculated to bloom for the duration of the exhibit. For example, in the Edible Garden, 500 purple Globemaster alliums are designed to bloom once the 3,400 Big Brother and Clearwater tulips have come to an end, according to ABG’s press release.

On Earth Day, April 22, children can participate in a ladybug release and learn about conservation from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Story time is at 10:30 a.m. Children’s events are free with garden admission.

Atlanta Botanical Garden also promotes Earth Day every day with its conservation efforts. The heart of the plant conservation program, according to Atlantabg.org, is the Conservation Support Greenhouse. Since 1989, the garden has propagated and nurtured endangered plants for numerous recovery projects. Projects include preserving plants native to the Southeast, such as Florida’s Cigar Orchid. The ABG has also worked with the National Fish and Wildlife Federation’s 5 Star Urban Waters program to help restore wetlands in Georgia.

Adult admission is $21.95, children 3 and older $15.95, younger than 3 are free. For more information visit Atlantabg.org. Please note that living sculptures the Earth Goddess and Shaggy Dog are undergoing renovation and will return in May.
