Duluth Gets NEW YOGA STUDIO

Duluth Yoga opened in late February at 3112 Main Street, Suite 100. Its 1,800-square-foot practice studio hosts more than 20 classes a week.

The studio is the younger sibling of Johns Creek Yoga; both were founded and are owned by Sheila McVay.

“I just wanted to teach a little yoga. I’m not sure what happened here,” says McVay, playfully commenting on how a second studio came to be.

McVay says that the community around her first studio had grown beyond the Johns Creek area and the new location, approximately 6.5 miles away from the first, is in the newly revitalized downtown Duluth.

The one class offered at Duluth but not Johns Creek is aerial yoga; the new studio has a higher ceiling and exposed beams. Teacher-training classes will continue to be offered only at Johns Creek.

Students can, and do, take classes at both studios, and class packages can be used across the two. One student characterizes Duluth as the “chic New York sister” of Johns Creek, which McVay describes as more “cozy and homey.”
