SEEKING NEW BLOOD: TWO YOGA ENTITIES READY FOR NEW OWNERS

Southeast Yoga Conference and the You Yoga, Me Yoga & More studio in Sandy Springs are ready for new owners to blaze new trails.

Nicole Jerovics joined Melissa Katz in 2009, when the Atlanta Yoga Conference was renamed the Southeast Yoga Conference. Jerovics was recently hired into a new job that requires more commuting, and that triggered a reevaluation of conference management.

“We just felt that it was time to hand off the baton. We’ve done a lot with this, and it’s time for someone else to bring in new ideas,” says Katz, who is looking forward to focusing more on teaching yoga and being a yoga student again.

“We changed the name to reflect what was already happening,” she says. Because more nationally renowned figures were teaching, attendees were coming from beyond Atlanta, including from other countries.

“We became more pedagogically oriented than other yoga events, and added workshops specifically designed for teachers,” says Katz. “As a result of these changes, about 20 percent of our attendees are from outside of Georgia, and about 20 percent are yoga teachers.”

The sale of SEYC comes with support from the co-founders. Katz warns, however, that it is unlikely that a buyer, even if they were to close a deal tomorrow, could produce a 2018 conference given the schedules of nationally recognized teachers, and that at least six months of lead time is needed.

Andrea Zavislak, owner of You Yoga, Me Yoga & More and an active- duty member of the Naval Reserve, will be leaving for overseas duty for a year-and-a-half. The studio, which she founded five years ago next month, has remained in the same location at 8745 Dunwoody Place in Sandy Springs. It has a 900-square foot main studio and three smaller rooms. She and her staff of four teach 18 classes a week in the hatha and vinyasa styles. Parties interested in You Yoga, Me Yoga & More may contact Zavislak at [email protected]
