REI Hosts Outings on the BeltLine
National outdoor recreation services and retail organization REI is partnering with The Georgia Conservancy to help locals learn enjoy the Atlanta BeltLine’s new three-mile Westside Trail through yoga, biking, hiking and outdoor workshops.
From February through March, REI will host bike safety and bike tips for ages 4 to 11, and 12 and older, starting at the Brown Middle School at 755 Peeples St. SW. Students will learn how to balance, how to shift and brake, and how to fall off a bike in the safest manner through both personalized and group instruction.
Five sunset hikes will be offered in February and March, meeting at various times ranging from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Gordon White Park, 1354 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd. An REI Outdoor School instructor will host the event, teaching basic hiking skills and introducing local natural places. Four sunrise hikes will also be offered, meeting at Wash- ington Park, 1125 Lena Street NW, at 6:30 or 7 a.m. on various dates.
The third effort at getting people acquainted with the Westside’s more than 40 acres of greenway and 14-foot-wide multiuse trail with 14 access points is REI’s outdoor Yoga on the Atlanta BeltLine. A professional instructor will lead participants at 3 p.m. each Sunday in March, meeting at Adair Park.
All classes are free with registration and open to residents who live in neighbor- hoods adjacent to the Atlanta Westside BeltLine Trail.
