Cann Dentistry has been offering holistic, mercury-free dentistry in Atlanta for more than 25 years.
Roberta Cann, DMD, AIAOMT, grew up in the dental profession, inspired by the kindness of her father, James Cann, DDS. Cann says it was her own experience with mercury toxicity that led her to develop a holistic practice.
Holistic dentistry is a combination of treatments and guidelines that are embodied by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, a non- profit organization dedicated to advocating for safe, science-based, biological dentistry, according to Iaomt.org.
“Our primary goal is trying to understand biocompatibility of any materials that we would introduce into a person’s teeth, because we know that that’s introducing it into their system,” Cann said. “Some people choose to
have a blood draw that can check their compatibility with hundreds of different dental materials.”
In addition to biocompatibility testing, Cann offers the Dental Pure Water System, oxygen-ozone therapy for minimally invasive bacteria removal, air purification, amalgam separator units for mercury and mercury-vapor removal, and digital radiography to reduce radiation during imaging. Her practice does not use fluoride.
Cann, also a registered member of the American Dental Association, earned her IAOMT Accreditation, completing a set of coursework that among other things requires review of more than 50 medical research articles, 10 groups of research compiled by category, a case presentation and 10 tests.
She also earned her Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique (SMART) certification through the IAOMT.
