Atlanta City Council declared October 16 to be Cox Conserves Day in the City of Atlanta.

“Cox Enterprises has been a trail- blazer in Atlanta’s sustainability ef- forts and continues to set an example for all business who are thinking of going green,” said District 2 Council- man Kwanza Hall, according to a council press release.

Jim Kennedy, the chairman of Cox Enterprises, launched the national program Cox Conserves in 2007. The program focuses on reducing waste and conserving both energy and water while encouraging employees and families to engage in eco-friendly practices.

According to City Council, Cox’s WSB-TV property in Midtown exceeded Atlanta’s Better Buildings Challenge six years ahead of its goal. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution property houses the nation’s first newspaper printing facility to receive certification from the U.S. Zero Waste Business Council. Buildings on its headquarters campus have achieved LEED Gold status.

Council reports that Cox Enter- prises has donated more than $35 million to sustainability and conser- vation in Atlanta. Cox’s sustainability goals are to send zero waste to land- fill by 2024 and to become carbon and water neutral by 2044, according to CoxEnterprises.com.
