Help Kids Make Room for Legumes

Georgia Organics announces that its annual Farm to School Month theme for 2017 is Make Room for Legumes.

All 50 states participate in October’s Farm to School Month, created by the U. S. Congress in 2010. Schools across the country host taste testings, garden parties, farm visits and more in order to promote fresh, healthy eating.

In Georgia, Farm to School Month is spearheaded by Georgia Organics, which offers an electronic toolkit to parents, educators, chefs and anyone interested in helping children to get excited about vegetables. The toolkit includes lesson plans, colorful photo cards, activity ideas and recipes designed to inform children about planting, eating and cooking with fresh vegetables.

Forty two percent of schools in the United States participate in the program, according to FarmToSchool.com. Previous October themes have included Rooting for Carrots, Leaf It to Spinach and Lettuce Try It.

Free registration for the electronic toolkit is available at GeorgiaOrganics.org, and additional resources are available at FarmToSchool.org.
