Texting is a Pain in the Neck

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]arti Yura and Tracy James will present a Tech Neck Workshop from 2 to 5 p.m., June 4, at Vista Yoga. Tech neck is a condition that occurs in the upper spine from the habitual pattern of the head and shoulders dropping forward from too much time on the computer, looking down while texting, driving and the effects of aging. The shoulders are so closely tied to the neck that when there is shoulder strain, it is often combined with neck pain.

“We will first focus on unwinding tension in the neck and shoulders with gentle somatic movements that work to free up tension in this region by irrigating fresh blood flow into the joints and tissues, helping to create greater freedom of movement,” says Yura.

“We will then explore intelligent postures that help to find balance in the neck and shoulders. By strengthening weak muscles and open patterns of strain, we can work to keep the head and shoulders in good alignment, thus helping to maintain the health and longevity of the shoulders,” she explains.

Cost is $45. Location: 2836 Lavista Rd., Ste. D, Decatur. For more information, call 404-929-9642 or visit VistaYoga.com.
