Storytelling and Gardening for Preschoolers at the Carlos Museum

The Michael C. Carlos Museum will host a free storytelling program once a month on Saturdays, where young children ages 3 to 5 sit in the galleries, surrounded by works of art, to hear stories of ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, Asia, the Americas and Africa. After each story, the children and their companions move to the Tate Room to create works of art or participate in activities based on the story and the cultures represented in the museum’s collections.

Participants will hear Why The Sky is Far Away at 10 a.m., May 9, a story told by the Bini people of Nigeria to their children for more than 500 years, teaching the importance of respecting the Earth and sky. The main characters in the story must grow their own food, and the kids will have a chance to plant their own seedlings to take home and nurture.

Location: Michael C. Carlos Museum, 571 S. Kilgo Circle, Atlanta. For more information, visit Carlos.Emory.edu.
