New CHaRM Facility for Hard-to-Recycle Items

WEB-NB_charm logo_no_whiteAtlanta’s first permanent Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM) facility is now open, thanks to the Live Thrive initiative, to encourage reuse while diverting thousands of pounds of household hazardous waste, bulky trash and other items from homes, water supplies and landfills.

Residents can bring in reusable items including shoes, books, musical instruments, sports equipment, bikes, textiles and more. CHaRM works with several organizations on-site to reuse items, including EcoFlo, PlasMet, Dart, Better World Books, American Kidney Services, Furniture Bank and Liberty Tire Recycling.

Easily accessible at a convenient location, the facility is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, accepting a wider range of items than curbside recycling. Educational sessions about the importance of proper disposal of hard-to-recycle materials are planned.

Location: 1110 Hill St., Atlanta. For list of acceptable items and partnering organizations, visit LiveThrive.org.
