Coop Tour Promotes Raising Chicks in Urban Spaces
The Wylde Center will host the sixth annual Urban Coop Tour, a self-guided journey featuring every kind of chicken coop, from chicken McMansions to jewel box coops in tiny spaces, on October 5 and 6. The tour highlights the many ways urban residents raise chickens on city lots and the benefits of having a backyard flock. The coops are often living works of art, situated in organic gardens as part of wider sustainability and permaculture efforts.
All are invited to tour some of Atlanta’s funkiest neighborhoods: Decatur, Lake Clare, the Historic Fourth Ward, East Atlanta, Virginia-Highlands and Grant Park. Coop owners will guide the tours and discuss their chicken-raising experiences. The tour is perfect for those considering a coop, adding more chickens,or simply curious about how it’s done.
