TaKeTiNa Harnesses the Healing Power of Archetypal Rhythm

TaKeTiNa is kinesthetic rhythm learning process with scientifically demonstrated health benefits that include deep relaxation, stress relief and right-brain/left-brain integration. Certified TaKeTiNa facilitators Colleen Caffrey and Amy Jackson, of DrumRise, will offer two upcoming opportunities to experience this moving meditation modality from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., June 21 and July 19, at Ananda Bhav Yoga, in Sandy Springs, and June 28 at Stillwater Yoga, in Midtown.

Traditional cultures have used rhythm in shamanic and ritual drumming for centuries to connect people with nature and community. TaKeTiNa brings these ancient practices into a modern context by guiding participants in a series of playful, rhythmic journeys using chanting, singing and simple movement. By relaxing the busyness of the rational mind, the body’s intuitive wisdom is allowed to surface, promoting a process of discovery of both rhythm and of self. Together, the group creates beautiful music while practicing a state of being in the present moment akin to a deeply restorative, recentering meditation.
