Strength Training and Qigong Merge in Brookhaven Studio

Brookhaven Fitness Studio is offering qigong classes three times a week: Tuesdays at 7 a.m. and 6:45 p.m., and Thursdays at 7 a.m. Qigong is a powerful combination of physical postures, breathing techniques and intense focus that benefits the body, mind and spirit. What sets qigong apart from typical workouts is that it involves the meridian system and integrates focus and breathing into each movement. The availability of qigong classes has grown along with demand as people discover the fun, dynamic movements and the life-enhancing benefits of this 5,000-year-old healing practice.

Qigong teaches participants how to manage their energy for inner and outer balance during strength and cardio conditioning. Unlike weightlifting, the qigong movements enhance, rather than deplete energy, and lower cortisol levels, rather than accelerate their release. The body is in a calm, focused and relaxed state while exercising, allowing blood and qi to move through blockages.
